Module 3 – MAKING

The process of making requires us to rethink and create new ideas after the original prototype of our Digital Artefact is presented. I have built on the ideas I first initiated in my pitch video, got rid of some or realised they were not going to work for me, and also just tried to stay as true to the original idea of my DA as I could, as I really loved the idea and had a lot of hope in it’s success.

The making stage of my DA wasn’t really just one stage, I feel like I was definitely making as much as I could throughout the whole process. I was posting consistent videos in the first two months of my YouTube channel, and I was excited enough to post about it and tell my peers and friends whenever I had posted a new video. I found that the promotion of videos on my instagram gained the most engagement, so I used that for the second and third video.

I have thoroughly enjoyed making videos, however found myself a lot more committed and passionate at the beginning, and those things sort of faded towards the end, I wanted to post heaps of videos and get as much content out there as I could, but I work 3 jobs now so time wasn’t really on my side. The compilation video I recently posted was around five 30 second clips of me singing at different times, some of them I filmed in my room, some were YouTube videos that didn’t quite make the cut, and others from concerts at school and my HSC showcase last year. I posted this in the hopes of viewers watching more of the videos, rather than just the first minute, which i found evident in the first few videos.

The actual process of making my content was so incredibly easy, I set my phone up whenever i had some free time, put the chords on my laptop screen, sang a song and posted it. It was really as easy as I anticipated at the start, which I think is mainly because I am passionate about music and I have been performing and learning songs quickly since the age of around 12, so I don’t have any difficulty or stress in making videos, I just wish I had more time on my hands to film all of the videos I planned to.

Overall, The making stage of my DA was definitely constant throughout, I enjoyed creating the videos and building on feedback and engagement from my audience. My social utility was originally going to be posting chords and lyrics in the description of each video, which I did end up doing, but I did not see any type of feedback or comment regarding that, so I have concluded that although my DA did not have a social utility that is particularly useful for many people, It provides entertainment for others and enjoyment for myself, and I am very happy with it!
