Visual Journal – Week 8

This week was focused on the creative process, beginning to plan our major projects, and working on a concept statement, focusing on thinking and planning.

I plan to engage with the concept of documentary landscape photography and also tie in some elements of popular culture.

Popular culture can be defined as “the set of practices, beliefs, and objects
that embody the most broadly shared meanings of a social system.” This will be relevant to my images, as they will be locations that carry the same feeling of memories and nostalgia to those in my local area.

I decided that my project will be based on local nostalgia, and I am going to capture local places that hold significance to me and my childhood, as well as others who have grown up in my area.

Now that I have a concept statement, I feel confident in my idea and have a clear view of how I am going to go about completing the project. This is a contact sheet I created, which acts as a sort of vision board for the types of images I am aiming for:
